이어달리기, relay race

4x100m 계주와 4x400m 계주(Relay)가 있다. 배턴 터치는 반드시 배턴 터치가 가능한 20m 구간 내에서 이루어져야 하며 그 외의 구간에서 배턴이 넘어가면 실격 처리된다. 보통 20m구간의 시작점에서 배턴 터치가 이루어지면 가장 효율적이라고 적혀있다. 원래는 미국과 자메이카의 주력종목이었으나 최근 일본이 계주 종목을 집중 육성하고 있다. 1인끼리의 대결보다는 이어달리기의 전략들을 더욱 훈련하여 이어달리기 종목에서는 올림픽이나 세계선수권 메달을 획득할 정도로 세계 정상급으로 치고 올라왔다.

 

-4x100m 계주: 1/3번 주자는 곡선주로를, 2/4번 주자는 직선주로를 달리는 계주 경기. 4번에 가장 빠르고 스퍼트가 강한 선수를, 1번 주자에 그 다음으로 빠르고 스타트에 강한 선수를 놓는 것이 보통이지만(1번 주자가 약간 간격을 벌리고 2, 3번 주자가 역전을 당해도 4번 주자가 만회할 수 있기 때문이다.) 1/3번 주자에는 200m 선수를, 2/4번 주자에는 100m 전문 선수를 배치하는 맞춤 전략도 존재한다.

-4x400m 계주: 첫 주자는 레인을 따라 돌고, 두번째 주자가 곡선주로 120m를 뛴 뒤부터 오픈 코스가 되며 일렬로 달린다. 선수들이 줄지어 들어오므로 배턴 터치에서 실수하지 않도록 주의해야 한다. 관행적으로 세계선수권이나 올림픽 육상 종목 가운데 가장 마지막에 실시하는 트랙 경기다. 최근에는 남녀별 경기뿐만 아니라 혼성(남 2, 여 2.주자 배치는 자유) 경기도 실시되며 2020 도쿄 올림픽에서도 열렸다. 여러 팀들이 남녀 배치를 다양하게 해봤지만 1, 4번을 남자, 2, 3번을 여자로 하는 팀의 기록이 잘 나왔다.2022년부터는 남녀남녀 순으로 순서가 고정되어 마음대로 바꿀 수 없다.

Baton touch must be made within 20 meter range where baton touch is possible, and if the baton is crossed in other sections, the person will be disqualified. It is common to place the fastest and most sputtered runner at No. 4 and the second fastest and most sputtered runner at No. 1 (even if runners No. 1 and No. 2 and No. 3 are reversed, runners No. 4 can make up for it.) There is also a customized strategy to place 200m runners on No. 1 and 100m professional runners on No. 2 and 4.

-4x400m relay: The first runner runs along the lane, and the second runner runs in an open line after running 120m in a curved line. As athletes line up, they must be careful not to make any mistake in baton touch. Traditionally, it is the last track and field event to be held at the World Championships or Olympic Games. Recently, not only men's and women's events but also mixed (men's 2nd and women's 2nd and women's 2nd runners are free) have been held at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Several teams have tried various male and female competitions, but the records for the teams with the 1st and 4th runners as men's and the 2nd and 3rd runners turned out well. From 2022, the order is fixed in the order of men's and women's, and it is impossible to change the order as desired.
