네트에 수평으로 치는 샷이다. 실력이 올라갈수록 굉장히 중요해지는 기술. 고수들끼리의 싸움에선 서로가 공격권을 가져가기 위해 띄워주지 않는 기술이 중요한데 이때 주로 드라이브 공방전이 벌어진다. 만약 드라이브 기술이 부족해서 엉성한 높이로 공을 쳤다간 순식간에 되치기 당해서 그대로 실점해 버린다. 보기엔 쉬워도 숙련하기가 어려운 기술이다. 만약 본인이 정말로 실력을 올리고 싶다면 스매시 연습할 시간을 조금이라도 할애해서 드라이브를 연마해야 한다. 스매시가 약해도 랠리는 가능하지만 수비와 드라이브 없인 만년 초보에서 벗어나질 못한다. 보통 초보자가 드라이브를 치게 되면 마치 채로 얼굴앞에서 깔짝이는 듯한 엉성한 포즈가 되는데 그렇게 하는 것도 정석적인 드라이브기는 하다. 그러나 다양한 각도에서 오는 공을 현재 쥔 그립을 유지하면서 드라이브로 받아치려면 따로 연습을 해야 한다. 탁구도 마찬가지지만 드라이브는 네트에 수평하게 채를 놓고 움직여 수평으로 보내는 연습이 필요하다. 드라이브로 오는 공은 드라이브로 밖에 받아칠 수 없어 상대의 패턴을 제한하기 좋으며, 강약조절을 통해 드롭샷으로 변칙적인 공격을 가하거나, 튼튼한 드라이브를 통해 상대가 실책하여 공을 띄우거나 네트에 걸리게 하기를 유도하는 식으로 이용된다.
